jk soul had a new vision for his new album take me higher. he wanted to show the world his wide range of production skills and his capability of moving through the different styles of electronic music with class. not a lover of sticking to any stylistic niche to mark his territory. electronic music was always his playground so now house, dubstep, drum & bass, together with touches of reggae and soul are equal parts in his new creations all of which are there to enrich his unique and famous hip hop based beats and soul influenced trip hop trademarks. lala pumpkins voice moves the listener far away, across the european borders and in the west side of the atlantic, sounding so fresh and full of emotion but at the same time strong and certain of the capabilities that carries like a funk diva.

good price for good music! what do you do when a live project exceeds its own ambitions? just keep doing the wonderful concerts and eventually head to the studio. sounds simple and conclusive. in the case of karocel, that was exactly how they went about it and surprisingly, all six band members made it happen. though the four marbert rocels, mathias kaden and michael-mitchi-nagler have known each other from their hometown along the gera-jena-erfurt corridor, and the karocel live shows have been well received: an album is an entirely different beast.

mere is a new project that began as a soundtrack and continues as an experimental, dark-ambient jazz group. guitar, drums and bass clarinet provide an intense and improvised journey into the abyss. the trio first came together to work on a soundtrack for a dutch tv documentary called visserman. having known each other for some time this was the first time they had combined together to write music and the name mere comes from the dutch word for more. each member adds a different influence to the sound, the modal finger picked guitar playing of thomas adds a sense of movement while gareth takes both folk and free jazz ideas to play against leos free rock influenced drum work. the tracks were recorded all in single takes with just a quick discussion of outline and tuning as a basic guide. gareth davis records on important, miasmah, sonic pieces, dekorder, home normal etc. collaborating with machinefabriek, steven r. smith, scanner, frances marie uitti, ryan teague, elliott sharp, ian hawgood and the like. leo fabriek releases on digitalis, home normal etc. and is also the drummer with the noise rock band julie mittens.

for a short period in 1981 and with brand-new equipment such as roland 808, sh 101, gr 500, we made some 8-track just for fun jam tapes. mainly just to experiment for our own pleasure. from those sessions, only white horse made it to a final treatment. the rest of the material was left behind, as our record company at the time found it too different. after white horse being a track indeed defining our sound, we thought it would be interesting to dig out left-overs to fulfill a documentation of that period - crucial for us at the time. we were still innocent newcomers, without actually knowing to be creating a new sound! recently, that left-over material was transferred from analogue to digital and, to stay as true as possible to original intentions, we only added vocals, bass and drumbeats ahead of a final mix. we hope that you will enjoy listening to it. good vibes from laid back copenhagen 2012.

the fruit tree foundation is an independent project that grew from the scottish mental health arts and film festival. ed by emma pollock (formerly of the delgados) and rod jones (idlewild), the fruit tree foundation also features james graham (twilight sad), scott hutchison (frightened rabbit), jill o sullivan (sparrow and the workshop), alasdair roberts, james yorkston, karine polwart and jenny reeve. the artists wrote and rehearsed the album over a long weekend in a remote perthshire farmhouse and recorded the final album in chem19 studios. the songs were written with a view to focussing on issues of mental health and wellbeing. artwork design by aidan moffat.

the mortimer trap is an epic 77min variation of morton feldmans for bunita marcus constructed by german experimentalist and techno icon thomas brinkmann and australian sound artist oren ambarchi. pulsating waves of claustrophobic ambience generated from who-knows-what patiently builds into a throbbing rhythmic pulse of gorgeous sonic density. since the 80s thomas brinkmann has experimented with sound, its textures and its construction methods. his custom built two-arm turntable on concept 1, the sampling of damaged records on klick and various experiments with carved-groove vinyl are just a handful of career highlights that mark brinkmann out as a true musical pioneer. oren ambarchi, primarily known for his solo guitar records for the touch label, has worked with a diverse array of artists such as keiji haino, fennesz, phill niblock, jim o rourke, voice crack, keith rowe and sunn 0))). ambarchi and brinkmann first worked together in in japan in january 2011 in a trio with mika vainio. the mortimer trap is their first collaborative work as a duo.

the rastafarian roots reggae singer brings a majestic touch to the songs he sings, which are deeply infused with his beliefs. with a sense of reverence that only a solemn, pious man as prince alla could put into song, this collection centres on tracks recorded at lee perry-s black ark studio. having spent his early days living in rasta camps & working as a singer for joe gibbs, it was at greenwich farm that prince alla (born keith blake) crossed paths with tapper zukie who was so blown away by alla-s songs he initiated the recording sessions. this release compiles those songs & their extended versions alongside 3 classic extra cuts, -hail rastafari-, -black roses- & the sublime -royal throne room-.
